Feilding Lawn Tennis Association

ANNUAL MEETING HELD

The annual meeting of the Feilding Lawn Tennis Association was held last evening, Mr, W. E. Carthew presiding. Moving tho adoption of the annual roport, Mr. Carthew made special reference to the new pavilion which had been an outstanding featuro of the season and the club’s thanks were due in that connection to tho very great assistance received from Mr. W. H. Rutherford, tho club’s patron. Ho was sure tho new building was going to mean a great deal to members and the position of the club generally. He congratulated Mrs. A. Waldin, club champion, as well as Manawatu champion, and Dr. K. G. Salmond, Manawatu champion, who strange to relate had not been a success in securing the club championship which honour had been claimed by Mr. W. Boddy. The financial position of the club was fairly sound and tho season’s prospects good. The election of officers was as follows:—Patron, Mr. W. H. Rutherford? president, Mr. C. H. Tate; vicepresident, ;Mr. F. A. Gover; hon. secretary, Mr. G. Darragh; hon. treasurer, Mr. A. R. Miers; committee, Dr. Sal-mond-and Messrs. W. E. Carthew, C. W. McCorkindale, P. Webster, Mrs. A. Waldin, Miss D. Eliott and E. Redward; hon. auditor, Mr. V. Laurence; delegates to Manawatu Lawn Tennis Association, Mr. C. H. Tate. On Mr. Carthew vacating tho chair Mr. W. Cook paid a tribute to his splendid services as president, and the meeting accorded him a hearty voto of thanks which was carried by acclamatK>A motion of thanks was accorded the retiring officers Messrs Miers and Cook for their work on tho courts and to the ladies’ committeo for providing refreshments. The retirement of Mr. W. Fitzgerald from secretaryship on account of his impending removal to Wellington, was referred to by the president, who eulogised his services for the past season.

Various incidental matters were considered, during which was received a recommendation for the provision of a volley-board. The meeting concluded with supper provided by Mrs. Waldin and Miss Rutherford.
