WELLINGTON TROTS. ACCEPTANCES RECEIVED, Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Acceptances for tho Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting (one day), to be held on Saturday, arc as under: —•

POPULAR SECRETARY RETIRING.

Mr. H. S. Moss intimated at, tho last meeting of the executive of the Hawko’s Bay Jockey Club that he desired to retire from the office of secretaryship at the end of tho present year. Mr Moss has held the office for 21 years and has proved a highly-valued servant of the club and of that section of tho racing public concerned in the activities of the club. The fortunes of tho club havo been varied, but throughout a strenuous period, particularly following the earthquake, the club, under the faithful guidance and conscientious service of Mr. Moss, has ‘ succeeded in maintaining its position as one of the leading jockey clubs of tho Dominion. Mr. Moss, who prior to going to Hastings was secretary for 14. years of tho Wairarapa P. and A. Society at Carterton, is not contemplating taking ofiiec elsewhere, but merely feels that the time has arrived when ho should retire from activo participation in the club’s affairs. YEARLING SALES BARGAINS One of the smartest—if not actually tho smartest—two-year-old filly in America this season, is Goldey E., who has won eleven times in 13 starts, and cost only £3O at last season’s sales at Saratoga. Her earnings total £3454.. This fact caused an American writer to touch upon other bargains at Saratoga in various years, and he mentioned that Man of War cost Mr. S. D. Biddle £IOOO as a yearling, won £49,893 in races, and up to the end of 1935 his progeny had won 701 races of a total value of £402,858. Another yearling bargain at Saratoga was Sun Briar, at £I2OO. His earnings as a racehorse for Mr. W. S. Kilmer were £14,671, and up to the end of last year his stock had won 563 races and £359,239. MONEY IN BREEDING THOROUGHBREDS. Major Daniel Dixon, who carried on an extensive stud farm at Owanstown, County Kildare, must have found thoroughbred breeding profitable. Ho died recently, and left estato iu Great Britain aud Northern Ireland valued ■it £4-77,615.

The principal contributors to his stakes total wero Pay (£10,501) and Tideway £7613). Pharos, with £IG,SS7, was nearest Fairway when the last mail left. LACKS NOTHING IN SIZE. Tho French Derby and Grand Prix winner, Meuxce, is an exceptionally tall colt, being 16 hands 3in.
