Phoenix Win Senior Hockey Competition

BROADWAY A RUNNERS-UP. Phoenix won the Manawatu Hockey Association’s senior competition on Saturday when they defeated Broadway B by 7 goals to 1. Broadway y,ho were two points behind Phoenix prior to Saturday’s games, had a win by default from Woodville, so that the competition ended with the same margin between the two leading teams. Combined Services won by default from Massey College. Early it appeared as if Broadway B would give Phoenix a good game, and it was not until half-way through the first half that the latter scored. At half-time they led 3—l, and in the second half had matters all their own way, putting on a further four goals. The scorers for Pnoenix were Morgan (3), LangstonO' (2), Sutton and Turner, while Pitzjohn netted Broadway B’a Giily goal. Tho umpires were Messrs. D. Wilton ana H. Byers.

In the junior sealed handicap competition, Broadway beat Combined Services by 7 goals to nil, the scorers being Scales (3), liincks (2), Tippling and O’Connell. The umpires iverc Messrs. W. Lundy and D. Hagan. At the conclusion of tho game Mr. L. Winks presented E. Thorburn with his trophy for the most improved junior in the Broauway Club. In a junior game played at Massey College, Phoenix defeated Massey College A by C to nil, the scorers tfeing Goodwin (3), Patchctt (2) and Campbell. The umpires were Messrs. M. Levy and M. McGonigal.
