Red Poll Cattle

POPULARITY IN AUSTRALIA.

While there has been steady and sustained progress in tho Red Poll cattle development in Great Britain, it is undoubtedly forging ahead in the British Dominions and not least in Australia. Australian live stock journals indicate that the breed has captured the support of graziers in New South Wales and Queensland, where many new herds are being founded, and there appears to be a great future in store for the Red Poll breeder in the Commonwealth. Established breeders are demonstrating a marked enthusiasm for the breed and while much of the breed’s progress is traceable to tho activities of breeders like Mr A. G. Hunter, who recently won the sires group prize, many have been attracted to the breed by the New Zealand and Australian Land Co., who have formed herds on very extensive lines with a big measuro of success. At the Sydney Royal Show the Land Co. annexed one championship, two reserves, ten first, five seconds and one third prize. The exhibits were brought out in nice condition, by no means overdone or forced, while several of the winners came from outstanding milking strains. The Land Co. ’s cattle frequently tops the Brisbane fat stock market with its Red Poll crossbred bullocks. In the opinion of Mr Hunter, the Red Poll offers the ideal bull for breeding off horns in either Shorthorn or Hereford or other beef breeds. .
