From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting’ of the Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon. Owing to inclement weather there was only a fair attendance. Mrs. Fletcher presided and apologies for absence were received from Mrs. Honore and Miss B. Zurcher. Mrs. .F. , Brown, late, of Manakau, was welcomed and Mrs. Attick, of Awapuni, was enrolled as a member. Arrangements were made for a plain and fancy dress dance to be held shortly. A report was read by Mrs. Stephenson, who has been visiting Dunedin as a delegate to the annual conference. Mrs. Stephenson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A demonstration given by Mrs. K. Woodham was followed with keen interest by the members. She was presented with a posy of violets. The competition for the month was for the best article made from a yard of cretonne and the best jam tarts (puff pastry). The first was won by Mrs. Fletcher 1, Mrs. K. Woodham 2, Mrs. Holland 3, and the second by Miss I. Holder 1, Mrs. Fletcher 2, Mrs. T. Woodham 3. Afternoon tea was then served, the hostesses being Mesdames Jackson and Holland. The competitions for September are to be a shoulder spray and vase of spring bulbs and madeira cake. The hostesses will be Mesdnmes Conway and Ivinninmont. The friends of Mr. and Mrs. Oke will regret to hear that their baby is an inmate of the .Palmerston North Hospital. Mr. Zurcher is spending a few days at Frankton Junction. Mrs. Biel, of Walker's road, is visiting her daughter at Hawera. Miss M. Holder has returned to Porlrua after spending the week-end with friends at Karere. The following scores were recorded at tho weekly shoot of the Longburn Miniature Rifle Club: J. Aldersley 70, 69, 139; H. Mabev 69, 69, 138; 11. Cohr 69, 68, 137; A. Gale 69, 68, 137; G. Hoffman 68. 69, 137; A. Reitch 68, 67, 135; W. Birch G 7,6 G, 133; A. Fisher 65, GS, 133; J. Stephenson Go, 67, 132; K. Jewell GS, G 3, 131; A. Key G-i, 63, 127. . - In the liundred-up self-handicap, results wero as follows: W. Birch 1, 99, 100; H. Mabcy 2, 98, 100; A. Gale 3. 97, 100; G. Hoffman 3, 97, 100; A. Leitch 3. 97, 100; E. Jewell 6, 94, 100; H. Cohr 2, 97, 99; J. Aldersley 2, 95, 97. Tho Birch Buttons were won this week by J. Aldersley in the A grade and H. Cohr in the B grade. '
