HAMMER STRIKES BOY. THROWER TO PAY £2500. (Empire Air Mail.) LONDON, June 23. Dr. Patrick O’Callaghan, the Irish Olympic athlete and champion hammer thrower, was swinging the hammer at a Mallow (Co. Cork) sports meeting, when the chain attached to the hammer broke. The hammer struck a boy onlooker, Michael O’Callaghan, on the head, causing serious injuries. Yesterday (says the Daily Herald), in the Dublin High Court, Dr. O’Callaghan was ordered to pay the lad £2500 damages.
