PLUTO v. McMAHON.

On Friday night at the Opera House one of the best fights ever promoted by the Manawatu Boxing Association will be seen, when Cyril Pluto, who has beaten all comers in New Zealand since his arrival from Australia, will fight fifteen rounds with Jack AlcAlahon, who has como from Taihape to resido in Palmerston North. AlcAlahon is practically a beginner m the professional ranks, but has made such wonderful progress that in matching him with the Westralian champion, ho is by no means out of his class, as his performances against Pearse, Aludgway and Fisher have proved. He had no difficulty in settling Pearse, and while he lost tho bout against Aludgway in Auckland, he was handicapped by having to reduce himself by 91bs., and so popular was he in the gay city, that the Auckland Boxing Association has requested permission for McMahon to have a return fight with Aludgway before his engagement with Pluto eventuated. This request was rightly turned down, but it only goes to prove what AlcAlahon is thought of where ho has been seen in action. Jack’s decisive win over Fisher recently at Feilding has established him firmly in this district, and local enthusiasts cannot see him losing the bout on Friday night. If intense training along approved lines will make a victor out of him, then the fight is already over. He is like a lot of other Irishmen in that he does not know' when he has had enough, aud carrying a sleep-producer in cither hand, the Australian will have to watch AlcAlahon’s physical fitness to see the long journey out. Pluto has won his ten fights in New Zealand and must not be under-rated, but in meeting AlcAlahon ho is up against his toughest proposition in this country. The box plans, which include tho new bird’s-eye view stadium seating specially constructed for this bout to hold 600 adults, will be opened to-morrow at Collinson and Cunninghame’s.
