Gloves for the Gardener
When an old waterproof coat of proofed woollen or cotten cloth is past ordinary wear it may be cut up and made into serviceable working gloves for house or garden use. They should bo made in tho form of ski-ing gauntlets, with a separate thumb and a bag for the fingers. If a ski-ing glove is available a pattern may be cut from it, but if not an outline drawing made round an ordinary loose fitting glove may be used as a guide for size. The material should be folded over so that a join need only be made at one side. The thumb-piece is made separately and stitched in position before the opening is cut out and before the side is joined up. In this way a better fit is obtained and the stitching is more easily done. If a lined waterproof is used to make tho gloves they should be cut from the double material. They are then warm and strong. If a slot for an elastic at the wrist is desired it should be stitched round before tho side of the glove is joined up.
