Prom Our Own Correspondent Personal. Miss Florence Bliss Is a guest of Miss Nancy Drysdale. Mr. Kb Drysdalo and Miss Nellie Drysdale have returned from an extensive holiday. • Friends of Mr. and Mrs. W. Pryde will regret to learn that their daughter Alison Is at present a patient at the Glenwood Private Hospital, Masterton, following an operation for appendicitis. Mr. 11. J. Watson-Fryde was a competitor at the recent R.S.A. golf tournament held at Masterton. Engagement. The engagement is announced of Izabel Mary, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Spring, of Nireuha, to Hilary Thomas, fourth son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Denby, of Masterton. Rifle Shooting. The recent Byrne Shield shoot fired at Makomako between Nireaha and Makomako resulted in a win for Makomako by nine points. The Makomako team is now shooting very consistently and has gained a lead of eight points from Nireaha. At the conclusion of the recent shoot both teams were entertained at supper where Mr, F. Ebbett and Mr. it. J. Laurence exchanger tho usual courtesies. Detailed; scores appeared in Saturday’s “Times." Women’s Institute. Tho monthly meotlr.g of tho Nireaha Women’s Institute was well" attended when Mrs. C. If. Mills presided. Teahostesses for the afternoon were Mrs. E. B. Terry and Mrs. J. B. O’Neil. During the afternoon arrangements for tho forthcoming birthday celebrations were finalised. A vacancy on tho committee has been filled by Mrs. J. P. Petersen. Winners of the various games were Mrs. J. Petersen, Miss B. Petersen, Miss L. Shannon and Mrs. W. J. Houston. Auld Lang Syne brought the afternoon to a close. Card Evening. An enthusiastic crowd of players was presont at the last euchre evening, when following many enjoyable games, prizes went to the following: Ladies, - Mrs. G. .Woodley 1, Miss K. Davidson consolation; men, Mr. Fred Hansen 1, Mr. J. 11. A. Drysdale, consolation, after tying with two others. Opossum Trapping. Opossum trappers report that conditions for tho early part of the season have been exceptionally bad, a heavy fall of snow making it hard to find a decent lino for traps. On the few good nights experienced catches have been well up to the average with kills running well past double figures. Blacks and reds predominate in the local blocks, with a fahsprlnkllng of greys and browns. Cheese Making. The local factory opened for the season on Wednesday last, when a fair number of farmers brought their first supplies for the season. With the guaranteed price and excellent prices for hobby calves, the local farmers aro looking forward to a prosperous year. Ping Pong. Oil Tuesday evening last a team from Rongokokako visited tho Nireaha Club to play a friendly match. After many even games the Nireaha team proved victors by 23 games to 10. In the singles games the Rongokokako players more than held their own, but in the doubles, where the rules were unfamiliar to them, they did not meet with such success. The Nireaha ladies supplied supper. Mr. McAnulty, on behalf of the visitors, thanked the Nireaha players for the entertainment provided and also expressed the wish that future matches could be arranged. Mr. R. J. Miniature Rifle Shooting, Tho weekly shoot was well attended when a self handicap event was fired. A competitor fixed his own handicap, but for every point scored over the possible (100) he was deducted two points from the 100 mark. The trophy for this event was presented by Mr. W. M. Manser. The winner of the event was Rifleman P. K. Daysh after shooting off with four other competitors. Several members overestimated their ability, hut the majority showed good judgment. The leading aggregate scores were as follow: Championship, R. Lawrence 780, N. C. Petersen 777, P. Berry 776; handicap aggregate, J. P. Sigvertsen 858$, Mrs. P. Berry 883$.
