Strength of Side Impresses Australia Received Tuesday, 12.20 a.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 10. Cricket writers here agree that the English selectors have done a splendid <. job although there is some surprise that Gover is not included. The opinion is fairly general that the M.C.C’. attack is most impressive, m tact the whole side is better balanced than Jurdiue's was tour years ago. Bradman opined that it was by no means' certain which side would win so strong is the proposition which the Australians will have to tneet. Strong in BoAviing and Fielding Received Tuesday, 12.8 U a.m. LOiMJUN, Aug. JO. Tho Morning rost says ••j.'ium', Warner reveals tuat the selectors cnose Yoco because both over aud round Tin. wicket he easily adapts himself to conditions. Copsou is very quick oil the wicket, (Situs, although ot the leg break guugiy school, differs from Eouius in that he makes the bail jump and he may be most useful in view of the new kg-beiore rule. The side is particularly strong m fielding. Hardstaff,- Holmes, Rishiock, Barnett and Leyland are good outfields, while Hammond, Voce, Robins and Eagg are good in tho slips, with Robins and Hardstaff strong at coverjoint. Worthington is a good alltyunder. ! Mr Nevilie Cardus, writing in the ilauclicster Guardian, says Barnett is x good selection. The fast Australian grounds should encourage his style. iTagg, who is a distinct gamble, as a
defensive batsman will bo trusted to keep up his end while Barnett tries to disperse the close Australian field exploited as a preliminary bluff. Generally the battiug is more brilliant than solid. Copson has yet to demonstrate his stamina. Voce has already done much to get ou the Australian nerve. Holmes will probably attend to the important work outside the Tests, where it is essential to prevent defeats damaging confidence. Sims was included owing to the possibility of Robins’ failure ou Australian wickets.
