SEARCHING CROSS-EXAMINATION BY CROWN

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The evidence in chief or McArthur was concluded in the Supremo Court this morning aud Air. Meredith then began his long cross-examination of A'cArthur. lie was closely questioned in regard tu his financial position prior to the formation of many of the companies concerned in the present proceedings and dealings by which the Crown alleges ho made use of the company funds to get himself out of difficulties. AtcArthur was also questioned lengthily, Mr. Meredith trying to force him to admit the Crown’s suggestion that the yacht Alorewa, from the very first was always intended for AlcArthur and that the Pacific Exploration Company was never intended to explore, nor suited to any such purpose. McArthur denied all this and said tho beat was very suitable for the purpose intended.
