Amateur Wrestling

GOOD BOUTS AT NEWMAN Good bouts were t.ho order recently when Mr. C. Cooper’s wrestling class met the Masterton club. A standard ring is now available at the Newman hall and this meets all the requirements for both wrestling and boxing contests. The Newman lads are to bo congratulated tor making every effort to supply the necessary ring equipment, and it is hoped that strong support will be accorded them. The officials were: Referee, Mr. Sutherland; announcer, Mr. C. H. Parsons; timekeeper, Mr. G. Hansen; medical officer, Dr. Simmers. The contests were run off in good tinio and patrons wore mere than satisliod with the results, which were as follow:- — Southey (Masterton), B.o', boat E. Kewley (Newman), 9.5, by two falls to nil. Tozer (Masterton), 9.10, drew with A. Nielsen (Newman), 0.6, no falls. Edwards (Masterton), 10. S, drew with P. Searanckc (Newman), 10.10, no fal Is. J. Searancke (Newman), 9.10, beat Simonson (Masterton), 10,0, by one fall to nil. • H. Russell (Masterton), 10.8, beat T. Nielsen (Newman), 11.4, by one fall to nil. Jack Searanckc (Newman), 9.4, beat Burling (Newman), 8.6, by two falls to uil. This was an excellent bout. L. Hill (Masterton), 19.0, beat Len Cooper (Newman), 19.0, by ono fall. Norris (Newman), 10.10, beat Pearson (Newman), 10.10, by two falls. E. Southey (Masterton), 8.7, drew with V. Ballmer (Newman), 8.9, no fails. A semi-professional contest between “Dismal Dick” Edwards and “Cyclone” Hutchinson, of eight threeminute rounds, ended in a draw. Edwards secured a fall in the. fifth round and Hutchinson evened in the seventh. The encounter was devoid of.showmanship and hard, willing wrestling delighted the spectators,- especially the ladies.
