From Our Own Correspondent. Annual District Ball. Widely known as the chief social event of tho year, the Kiwitea annual district ball held on Wednesday night proved to bo an even more successful function than those held in previous years. The hall, which was most artistically decorated by a willing band of workers, under the guidance of Mrs. T. R. Taylor, who is well known for her capabilities In tills respect, created a delightful scene. The middle of the ceiling was concealed with multicoloured paper fringes, with streamers forming a wide margin to the walls while the lights were relieved by tlie draping of narrow streamers arrayed with paie shaded roses. The stage was most effective, being arranged similarly, but with the addition to orange coloured berries against a background of cream. The supper tables were set out with gold and black baskets of, berries, on whten were tied wido bows of red, orange and green ribbons, the whole lending an effect rarely obtained. The spirited music supplied by one of Manawatu's most popular orchestras gave a zest to the 200 dancers and the programme came to an all-too-early finish. Extras during supper were played by Mr. Pearce, of Peilding. Mr. F. Ross. Mr. C. L. Williams and Mr. C. 11. Meads, carried out tile duties of M'sC. Among those present were: Miss P. Tho Kiwitea cribbage team in its match against Waituna AA'est at Waituna on Monday night last was successful by £6 games to 24, after a number of very exciting games. Air. AV. G.
