Six Storey Apartment Collapses
Eleven Killed; One Missing SHOCKING TRAGEDY IN BRONX United Press Association— By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 9.30 p.m. NEW YORK, Juno 20. One of the most serious construction accidents in recent years occurred today, live workmen being killed and a score injured wheu a nearly completed six-storcy apartment house at Bronx collapsed. It required several hours' work to remove the bodies and release some of the injured. Tho collapse was apparently caused by plumbers boring through a column for piping. Tho building was designed to house sixty families. LATER. Tho collapse of the Bronx apartment building yesterday developed into a major disaster to-day as tho wrecking crews found eleven additional bodies, making tho death roll sixteen. At least one workman is still reported missing and feared dead. The jumble of timbers, bricks and mortar is so deep that it required 2-f hours of frantic work to find the bodies and the bottom of tho pile is not yet reached.
