SOCIETY CONTINUES IN SATISFACTORY POSITION Tho council of tho New Zealand Aberdeen Angus Cattlo Breeders’ Association mot at the Showgrounds on Wednesday, when there were present Messrs L. A. P. Sherriff (chair), M. B. Gibbons, J. Knight, T. May, A. McGaffin and J. Wobb. The secretary reported that Mr. A. McGaffiu had aecOpted/tho position on the council which had occurred through the resignation of Mr. Carlyon. The chairman extended to Mr. McGaffiu a hearty welcome in the name of the council; Mr. Gibbons seconded the motion and expressed his appreciation of the work that Mr. McGaffiu had done for the breed in the past and tho hope that he would continue his effortc and would be one of the successful exhibitors at the future shows. • -

Mr. J. W. Ellingham wrote resigning from tho council as he was going to England on a trip. Mr. Ellingham’s resignation was accepted with regret. Mr. P. Armstrong was invited to fill the seat on the council vacated through Mr. Ellingham’s resignation. Mr. Eric Nolan wrote requesting that a bull, Monoch of Tautanc, purchased' by him'in October, 1933, when no-transy

fer was given, should now be granted a transfer and pedigree certificate. The matter was carefully considered and tho opinion was expressed that it .was in the best interests of the breed that the rules should be strictly adhered to in every respect. The secretary was instructed to inform Mr. Nolan that the 'council much regretted no transfer could bo granted, that it was strictly against the rules and would establish a dangerous precedent. The following members were declared elected: —Messrs N, A. Lopdell, Putaruru; Cawen Holden, Hastings; B. titewart, Waiata, Feilding; R. K. Reynolds, Okororire, R.D., Rotorua line. Tho secretary reported that the membership, including the above . four gentlemen, was 120.

The breeders’ cup, donated' at any show in New Zealand at which there was reasonable competition, was, after discussion, allocated to the Dannevirke A. and P. Society’s Show. The cup is for a group of two, bull, two years and upwards, female, two years and upwards.

Finance: The secretary reported that the finances were in a most satisfactory condition, all accounts outstandinging had been paid and there was a substantial bank . balance, as well'as nearly £SOO in the Post Office. It was proposed by Mr. Gibbons, seconded by Mr.--. Webb, .that the report bo-approved

and that the fees for the incoming season remain as in the past. October sale: It was resolved that the sale be held on Wednesday, October 14, at Dannevirke, that the judging for the competitions commenco at 10 a.m. and that the actual sale commenco at 12 noon, that the following prizes be granted: —Yearling bull, first, 3gns., second, 2gns. Two-year-okl bulls, first, sgns., second, 2gns.; that , the limit before withdrawal be as in past years, £150; that the Wright, Wtephenson Cup and the S.H.B. Stock Auctioneers’ Association cup be presented just before the prize bulls offered for sale. Judge of competitions: It was resolved that Mr. H. B. Williams, of Turihaua, he invited to act as judge of tho , competitions. : Junior judges: It was proposed- by ; Mr. Sherriff and seconded by Mr. McGaffin that, with a view to providing competent judges in the future, the principle of appointing judges’ associates at A. and P.-shows-was approved and the president was- ..requested to take the necessary action : to bring this . about. in connection with sonic cattle import-j ed by a member which apparently were distinguishable only by a number plate suspended on a chain round the neck. Mr. Gibbons pointed out that the rules definitely stated all imported animals j must be fire branded with a distinctive | number, and the secretary was instructed to write pointing this out to the member in question and to any other members who have imported cattle- and who have not registered the station i numbers of the said beasts.
