TWO HUGE LINERS PROMISED United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Thursday, 7.30 pan. LONDON, June IS. Sir Edward Beatty, chairman of the Canadian Pacific Railway, upon his arrival at Southampton indicated that orders would be placed immediately for two ships for the Canadian-Australiau Line in the Pacific if the British and Dominion Governments reached an agreement regarding a subsidy. It will be necessary to build ships of at least 22,000, tons with a speed of 22 knots, and the cost would be in the region of £2,500,000.
Sir Edward Beatty intends to confer with Hon. Alexander Shaw (chairman of the P. and O. Line), Mr Walter Eunciiuaii, and Mr Malcolm MacDonald. The amount of (he subsidy has not been settled, but it' would oe divisible between the Imperial Government and the Governments of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and Fiji. Sir Edward Beatty is very hopeful oT a settlement in order that- the Empire route be preserved.
