Sandon Public Hall
MEETING HELD EOR RE-BUILDING SCHEME.
Mr. H. J. Fagan presided over a representative meeting on Tuesday night in connection with the inauguration of a fund for the re-building of the hall at some future date. Delegates were present from the following clubs and organisations: Basketball Club, Football Club, Rifle Club, Table Tennis Club, Tennis Ciub, local branch of the Labour Party, School Committee and tho Old Boys' Association. Apologies were received from Messrs. J. H. Perrett (chairman of the Park Board and W. E. Pearce (member of the Park Board) and the Sandon Women’s Institute.
Mr. Fagan, who was elected to the chair, explained tho objects of tho meeting and said that the Park Board had not sufficient revenue for the re building of a hall, but were prepared to subsidise any money raised for such purpose up to £25 per annum. “Any effort to raise funds would have to come under tho jurisdiction of the board,” said Mr. Fagan. The chairman then called for suggestions from the meeting. Mr. D. Hammond, representing the Football Club, said there was no time like the present and he could assure the chairman that his club would assist any project.
Mr. E. J. Bowater said that tho time was well past when a start should have been made and to give a lead he moved the following -.—. solution: “That a committee be set up to work in conjunction with tho Park Board to discuss ways and means of raising money for the re-building of the hall.”—Carried.
After a further discussion it was decided that the delegates present report back to their club and ask that each organisation nominate a delegate to the committee and that tho names be handed to the secretary to the Park Board as soon as possible so that a further meeting could bo held at an early date.
