At the wool sales 8323 bales were offered and 5200 sold, also 900 privately. There was good competition, chiefly from Continental and Yorkshire sections. The market was firm at the previous day’s rates. Withdrawals wero heavy owing to the reserves. The Japanese again -looked on without operating. Greasy Merino realised to 21d.
Australia Offers to Re-open Negotiations Received Wednesday, 2 a.m. CANBERRA, Juiie 16. As an inducement to Japan to rcopeu trade treaty negotiations, tho Commonwealth Government is prepared to transfer Japanese goods from tho general tariff division to the intermediate. This would reCuco tho duty on Japanese rayon from ninepcucc to eightpence per yard and on cotton piece goods by a farthing alt round. Australia is also prepared to undertake lo ensure that Japan ietains at least half her present textile trade while facilities will also be afforded for Japan to steadily expand her Australian trade as a “good customer", country.
