Pretty Dancer Sues Prince for Breach of Promise

CLAIMS £3,500 ENGAGEMENT EXPENSES AND DAMAGES PAiRIS. A Prince of tho royal family of Cambodia is being sued beforo the Seine Court for breach of promise by a Belgian dancer, who asserts that he promised to mako her a princess. Over £3,500 is being claimed for expenses of the engagement and damage to interests. Prince Norindeth Norodom, a descendant of tho famous Cambodian King, who is now Secretary-General to the Cambodian Council of Ministers, visited Paris in 1933 to study law and met Mile. Vera Barlow, whoso stage namo was Mile. Gelhan. She states that he promised to marry her aud that they were to livo at his homo in Pnom-Penh, the Ca.mbodian capital. It is stated that lie was verymuch in love with her, but that after a time his interests veered towards mysticism. llo' went home to become a Buddhist priest, living in tho Elephant mountains. Mile. Barlow later heard that he had abandoned tho priesthood and had entered Government service. A case was then brought before the Seine Court by the dancer’s stepfather, M. Truyens. The Prince’s counsel contend that the Court at Pnom-Penh should deal with the matter. Tho Seine Court will give judgment with regard to its competencp in six weeks’ time.—Reuter.
