On Monday evening representatives of the Apiti branch of the W.D.F.U. and the Farmers’ Union met to finalise arrangements for the social and dance to bo held on Friday night. Particulars are advertised in this issue. The results of the farmers’ root crop competitions will be announced at the social when the prizes will ue presented to the winners in each section. Mr. Galpin, of the Department of Agriculture, will attend and give a snort address on the aims and objects of the Young Farmers' Clubs. During the evening Mr. A. Dobson, who was for many years tho driver of the Apiti cream lorry, will be the recipient of a presentation. Women's Division. The June meeting of the Apiti branch of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, attracted a large attendance on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. A. It. McNae presided and welcomed tne visitors, Mrs. passan, a life-member 01 the Te Kuiti brunen, and Mrs. Meicalte. of New Plymouth. Miss Muriel -nix, the Apiti delegate who attended the recent girls’ educational weeK in Palmerston Nortn, gave an excellent report of an enjoyable week. Mrs. H. C. Mcintyre interested memoers with her report of the inter-provincial meeting. it was decided to send two delegates to tho Dominion conference in Wellington, Mesdames a.. R. McNae and A. W. Viles being elected. Mrs. Passau made a handsome donation towards tho expenses of tne Apiu uelegates 10 conference. The competition lor next meeting is ‘‘for something new made from something old.' - Mrs. James Martin sang two songs very pleasingly, Mrs. A. Viles playing the accompaniments. Mrs. Bird juugea a telegram competition wnich was won by Mrs. A. Viles. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Munro, Mclntyre and W. j. Viles. Mr. M. Kreger has returned to Rangiwahia after visiting his sister, Mrs. B. Martin. School Committee. Mr. if. VVildbore tenairman) and Messrs. A. W. Bensenmn, J. if. Cowan, W. Hogan (secretary) and A. W. Bird (.lead teacher j were present at the June meeting of tno Apiti School Committee. Mr. Ueo. Watkins was absent owing to indisposition and forwarded an apology. Routine business was conducted and the committed decided to purenaso necessary school requisites and materials tor minor repairs and improvements in tho scnool. Oil Friday last Messrs. Bolton (secretaryj and Hodge (architect) of tho Wanganui Education Board visited the school and commenced very favourably on the school and surroundings. A subsidy or £IU is to be granted the school committee for tne recent improvements to the playgrounds. Messrs. Hodge and Bolton also visited the Ridge road and it is hoped that the board will be agreeable to assist the children from there by providing transport to the Apiti School. Mrs. Bird entertained tho visitors and Messrs. Wildbore and Hogan of, the school committee at afternoon tea at the school house. Personal., Mr. and Mrs. Metcalfe are New Plymouth visitors staying with Mrs. A. E. Prujean. Mr. and Mrs. R. Guy, Glen Oroua, are staying with Mrs. B. Guy, Norsewood road. Miss B. Bickley, of Hastings, is staying with Mrs. W. McKay.
