Funds for Girl Guides
SUCCESSFUL CARD PARTY. To raiso money to meet tlio levy oa the Girl'Guides, a delightful card after noon was held yesterday at. the residence of Mrs. G. King, Fitzherber. avenue, Palmerston North. Mrs. King was assisted by Mrs. 33. Chisholm. Over 14 tables were occupied by players and a beautiful afternoon tea was served by the hostesses in three rooms decorated with Iceland poppies and orchids in a predominating tone of orange.
The prizes, which had been provided by Mrs. King and members of the executive, were won as follows:—Contract bridge, Mrs. W. G. Ruthcrfurd; auction bridge, Mrs. D’Atli and Miss M. Warren; hidden number, Miss Warren; euchre, Miss Bloomfield; 500, Mrs. Jensen.
Before the players dispersed Mrs. King thanked them for coming. Mrs. G. A. Elliot, district commissioner, thanked Mrs. King for placing her home at the disposal of the Girl Guide executive and for what she had done to make the party so enjoyable. The successful arrangements were undertaken by Miss Warren and Mrs. J. H. Whyte. The amount raised will almost cover the cost of the levy.
