“ATHLETICS” ANNUAL MEETING. The approach of tho basketball season. was heralded in Pahiatua on Wednesday evening when tho Athletic Club held its annual meeting. Mr M. Smith presided over a fair attendance. The balance-sheet disclosed a credit of £7 19s 7d, as against £ll 16s last year. The report read as under: — “Matches began on tho 29th, April, and wo managed to get only two teams entered —a junior and a senior. On Juno 3rd we entered tho two teams in the Manawatu tournament at Palmerston North. Tho seniors lost their only game and the juniors won ono game. A junior and senior Yankee tournament took place during the season and wc entered a team in each respective grade. The seniors were unfortunate enough to loso the Smith Shield against the Rovers. Two Athletic senior players were chosen for the rep. team to go to Wellington. Our annual ball took place in May and was not quite so successful as last year, but Miss D. Ogden is to be complimented on the way in which sho carried out the duties of tho dance secretary.” Officers were then elected as under:— Patron, Mrs W. J. Mills; president, Mrs T. Paget; vice-presidents, Mrs W. Murch and Messrs W. C. Coldicutt, G. Hodd, G. Hill and J. G. Chambers; hon. secretary, Miss Joyce Petersen; selector, Mrs Bussell; social and general committee, Misses Doris Ogden, Molly Smith, Nola Murch and Joan Murch; delegates to tho Association, Misses Smith and Peterson; dance secretary, Miss Ogden. Subscriptions were fixed at 2s and tho uniform is to be the same as that used last year. The meeting again favoured going to Palmerston North for the Manawatu tournament and it was decided to change the playing nights from Wednesday to Monday, April 22nd, at 2.30 p.m. The annual dance will be held ofi either June 10th or I7th.
