Y.M.C.A.

GYMNASIUM CLASSES COMMENCE.

The Palmerston North Y.M.C.A. has demonstrated most 'ably over the past 14 years that it has the equipment, as ./ell as the leadership, to promoto within this city a system of physical education that is scientific, safe, and of wonderful benefit to those rar-3eemg enough to participate. The association may be truly termed a family organisation, for within its ranks of tho members of the Physical Department may be found mothers, fathers, sons and daughters, all deriving within their own groups a maximum amount of fun, relaxation and physical benefit at a minimum cost. There are organised classes for business men meeting on Mondays and Thursdays immediately after office hours, and for young men on Monday and: Thursday evenings. The boys’ division (boys over 12 years of age) is divided into throe groups: Intermediate, secondary school boys, and primary school boys, each group meeting on separato evenings. In the special gymnasium classes are included ladies, meeting on Tuesday evenings; secondary school girls, meeting on Friday afternoons after schooi; and from. 7 to 12 years of ago meeting on Saturday mornlugs in two separate sessions. Physical education, as conceived by the Y.M.C.A., seeks to put every boy and girl, youth and maiden, into full possession of their best racial inheritance —Health—and so enable them to be in the position to enjoy their daily lives in suen a manner as to attain and maintain a maximum efficiency as individuals and citizens. Last year there were 446 individual members participating in classes and the indications are that this year will eclipse previous years in membership and enthusiasm. Any enquiries for particulars of membership either by ’phone 6246 or letter will be promptly attended to. Communications should be addressed to the General Secretary, Y.M.C.A., Grey street.
