Wanganui Trots

< ANNUAL MEETING TO-DAY SINGLE-POOL BETTING Very good fields have been carded for the first day of the Wanganui Trotting Club’s annual meeting which opens to-day and which will bo concluded next Saturday. The class in the two-mile events is particularly good and this promises well for the success of the circuit, which will be carried on by the Hawera and Manawatu trotting clubs. The course has been wired at the various starting posts and the Savage electric-releaso starting barrier will be operated for each race. This method of starting has won favour withreinsmen and the general public wherever it has been tried, and practically all the leading clubs have intimated their intention of adopting the barrier. An improvement which bas been favourably commented on by visiting trainers in the elimination of tho "crossing” at the entranco to the straight. This has been grassed over and should be appreciated, as in the past horses have been known to shy at the crossing. The betting will be single-pool, with 75-25 per cent, dividends. Horses likely to command respect are as under: — Innovation Handicap: CelebrityCams bracket, Farm Girl, Dusky Chum. Kirkwood Handicap: Polly Pan, Native Leaf, Stalky'. Eastbrook Handicap: Parochial, Baron Alfonso, Cherrill. Wanganui Handicap; Itayon d’Or, Ironside, Rockella. Autumn Handicap: Epilogue, Muriel Bond, Cams. President’s Handicap: Polly Pan, Lucky Eose, Waikato Prince. Poster’s Handicap: Parochial, Cherrill, Muriel Bond. Morton Memorial Handicap: Our McKinney, Blondie, Eoekella.

RACES AT PAHIATUA. ORDER OP PROGRAMME HAS BEEN ALTERED. According to a message received last evening, the order for the last two events on both days of the Pahiatua Racing Club’s meeting has been transposed and on Tuesday the final event will be the Makuri Handicap which will be preceded by the Eketahuna Handicap.

INJURY TO COURTEGA A New Plymouth. correspondent states that Courtega, who ran two line races at Awapuni, injured herself rather severely on the float on the journey home. One of the sinews of her near hind leg was so badly torn that she is unlikely to race again and will probably be retired to the stud.
