WINS FOR UNITED AND COMBINED SERVICES. CHAMPIONSHIP WINNERS MUST BE UNITED. With two more games completed yesterday, the Wednesday cricket competition is nearing the finish, and United, with a 3-point win against P.D.C. have made tho championship safe for themselves. The conditions yesterday were not favourable, a bleak wind making things most unpleasant for tho players and for the few spectators wdio braved tho elements. United Beat P.D.C. In a game decided on the first innings United beat P.D.C. by 100 runs. On tho opening day of tho game P.D.C. knocked up 88 and in reply United had 167 on for the loss of six wickets —this being the position at stumps. At that stage Hansen was G2 not out. Continuing the innings United knocked up 188, giving them a first-innings lead «o£ 100 runs. Hansen, who batted very well, carried his bat for 71. P.D.C. proved a tougher proposition in their second innings and, batting 10 men, the3 r scored 101 despite the fact that two men retired undefeated. Detailed scores are as under:— P.D.C. Combined Services, with the help of a good first innings lead, had no real trouble in beating Optimists by a decisive margin. When stumps were drawn on tho first day Optimists, who, in their first venture at the wickets made only SS, had 112 runs on for four wickets, Services having made 103. Rico (32) was one of the not out batsmen for Optimists. Continuing, Optimists knocked up the respectablo total of 16S, Rico increasing his individual contribution to 56.
