There was a general speeding up of work m the town as the noon hour approached when business premises closed their doors -or the weekly half-holiday. In tno afternoon there was a good attendance o players on the Mangamutu and Pahiatua tennis courts. The croquet lawns attracted an excellent gathering . and bowlers in numbers were on the rinks. A large working bee of menfolk, interested in the town’s progress, set off for the race-course where the call of duty was that of putting a. few finishing touches to the course itself and cleaning up its buildings in preparation or the annual racing fixture. The proprietors of the town’s several hotels had a busy evening Tuesday last rounding up their boaraers and explaining to them the Government’! requirements regarding tho censustaking, and when it is considered that well over thirty returns were required of one commercial house, a fair estimate can be gathered of the amount of running about required with boarders coming and going the same evening. Advice has been received from Mr D. W. Wilton that the St. Paul’s second annual flower show will take place this year on April 21st next and that entries for same will close on the Saturday previous.
