Adelaide banks which have not already done so have raised their fixed deposit rates as from March 23. The Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, disclaimed responsibility on the part of the Loan Council or any Government authority for interest rates, lie said the impression existed that the Commonwealth Bank interest was fixed, cither by the Commonwealth Government or the Loan Council-
The only influence that any Govcrnlr nt could have, lie said, on interest, rates was through the amount it borrowed and 'he consequent effect on the market.
