MISSIONARIES IN PERIL. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, Mar. 24. The Peking correspondent of The Times says that Communists are reported to have taken Hungtung, where missionaries are imperilled. Nothing further has been heard regarding the report that nine adults and four children wore endangered at Pingyang. The Central Government has replied to tho British Embassy promising every effort to protect the missionaries. The Daily Telegraph’s Peking correspondent says that two expeditions are moving against the Communists, and that the safety of Britishers depends on whether the expeditions are successful.

According to a cable message published yesterday the Daily Telegraph said that an autogiro rescue ot' English and American missionaries who were threatened by Communist troops in North China was being planned. It was stated that they could be reached only by air, while the terrain rendered it impossible for an ordinary aeroplane to land. The number imperilled was unknown, but the China Inland Mission announced that at least 13 adults and several children were in Hungtung, including Mr. and Mrs. A. Trudinger, Australians, and Mr. C. G. Edwards, an Australian/and his wife, who is a Londoner, and Mrs. H. H. Knight, an Australian. Nine adults and four children Wero endangered in Pingyang.
