PAHIATUA ACCEPTANCES. Owners and trainers are given a final reminder that acceptances for all firstday events at the Pahiatua Racing Club’s annual meeting, to be held next Tuesday and Wednesday, are due to close with the secretary (Mr J. G. Gwainson) at 9 o’clock this evening. A DERBY COLT. The Woodville trainer F. Davis produced his fourth juvenile winner this season in tho good looking colt Black Friar, who scored in tho Stonyhurst Juvenile on the second day at Awapuni. By Gascony from the King John mare Orozino, this colt was purchased by Davis at last year’s yearling sales for 300 guineas, and he later disposed of him to Mrs M. S. Curie, owner of Red Manfred. A massive colt, this youngster has been given plenty of time, and .s susceptible to a lot of improvement vet. It is intended to race fiim at Auckland at Easter, where one of his engagements will be the Champagne Stakes. IN ST. LEGER STAKES. Greek Shepherd and Entail are due to meet again in the Great Northern St. Lcger Stakes, to be run at Ellerslie on Easter Monday. These two had a great race in tho Now Zealand St. Leger at Tren.tham earlier in the month, Entail winning by half a head. Gr„ck Shepherd accounted for tho Autumn Handicap, one mile and three furlongs, tho next day, but Entail did not contest that event. They came together again in the Awapuni Cup, run at weight-for-age over a mile and a quarter, last Friday, and Greek Shepherd turned the tables on Entail by half a length. Greek Shepherd beat Entail easily in the Great Northern Derby at Christmas time, the latter being unplaced, but Entail has improved a great deal in the interim, and their next meeting will be looked to with great interest. Greek Shepherd is remaining at Awapuni in charge of W. Pine till his trainer returns from Eiccarton to bring him to Ellerslie. WINTER CUP WINNER. The Winter Cup winner, Eprls, is included among the entries for the Auckland Handicap. He has not done much since then, but his third to Rebel Chief and Capital at Oamaru on Saturday and his second on Monday show'that the son of Shambles is returning to form. Last season he was an excellent performer, winning seven events, including a double at Dunedin SUPPLY OP LEAD. Jockeys have to provide their own lead for making up their weight, and in consequenco the smaller ono is the more lead it is necessary to carry if the .boy, happens to be a good rider. A correspondent makes tho suggestion that the clubs should get a supply of lead and keep it in tho weighing room, and then tho jockeys could use it and return it. Carrying the saddle, lead, clothing, etc., makes it pretty hard work for some jockeys attending meetings. A.R.C. CORRECTIONS. FORFEITS AND ENTRIES. The secretary of the Auckland Racing Club, Mr. W. S. Spence, has notified the following amendments to the list of forfeits and nominations published ou Saturday for the autumn meeting on April 11 and 13: — Tidalia has to bo added to tho Great Northern Oaks and St. Leger. Fireguard has to be deleted from tho St. Leger. Trouvaille and Gappy, placed among tho entries for the Onslow Handicap, should have been included in the Eden Handicap. WANGANUI CLUB. LIST OF ACCEPTANCES FOE NEXT SATURDAY. Acceptances for tho Wanganui Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday closed on Tuesday night and the satisfactory position was disclosed that for the eight events on the programme the engagements of no fewer than 90 have been continued. This gives an average of just over eleven a race. For the Wanganui Handicap, in which a valuable canteen of cutlery has been donated as part of winner’s share of the stake, there are niue acceptors, and there are ten in tho President’s Handicap. The Autumn Handicap field at present numbers sixteen, and there are two fields of thirteen and three of ten. The club has arranged that there shall be 35-minute intervals between events, with tho first race starting at 12.30 p.m. The totalisator, operated on the single-pool system with dividends on first and second horses, will be closed promptly to timo in order to maintain the schedule. A dividend barometer indicator will servo as a guide for patrons. The services of Mr. C. E. Craig, the well-known trotting writer from Auckland, have been secured for the purpose of supplying pattrons with a review' of the fields and a running broadcast of the races., The starting will be effected by means of the Savage patent electric release, which has given entire satisfaction wherever it has been tried.

long delayed. McMahon was an easy target, and a right swing to tho jaw dropped him for two. No sooner was ho on his feet again than he was dropped once more, this time to bounce straight up without taking any rest. He was reeling hopelessly, and was well beaten, and when another right swing put him to the canvas Mr. McLean declared Mudgway the winner without starting to count.

GOLDEN MILLER REFUSES TO JUMP Golden Miller, favourite for the Grand National, has temporarily fallen from grace (states a London message). His lapse in last year’s Grand National, in which he refused a fence in the first round and threw his jockey, had been forgiven, and this w r cek he started a hot favourite in' tho Newbury Steeplechase. But he repeated his tactics of last March, refused five fences from the finish, and threw his jockoy, G. Wilson. The race had been regarded as his big test for the Grand National on March 27. Up to the time of his refusal Golden Miller had jumped perfectly and was moving freely until approaching the fifth fence from home. Then he begem to stop. With his forelegs stuck out, ho appeared to run right into the wing of the fence, and Wilson, taken by surprise, was thrown out of the saddle.
