Bible-in-Schools League
FEILDING BRANCH MEETING. Tliero was a moderate attendance at the annual meeting of the Feilding branch of the Biblc-in-Schools League, held at the Methodist Church, Feilding, on Monday night, with the Rev. H. W. Page presiding. The meeting opened with prayer and a silent vote of sympathy with the family of the late Mis A. Fade. An apology was received from the Hcv, A. D. Dixon. The secretary, Mr W. A. Eade, read a report of the past year’s activities in which he mentioned .the transfer to Wellington of the Rev. E. 0. Blainires. He testified to the great assistance Mrs Thompson and Mrs Stewart had been in the collecting and recording work of the committee. Mr A. 0. Aldis, hon. treasurer, reported that during the current year, tho receipts, including tho balance from 1934, had been £2O Ss 3d. . The expenses were £2 Is (id, .while £lo.Bs 9d had been remitted to headejuarters, leaving £1 18s in hand. Mrs Stewart stated that there were 150 on the subscribers roll. The report and balance sheet wero approved and oliiccrs elected as under: —President, tho Rev. 11. W. Page; vice-presidents, Archdeacon Petrie, tho Revs. A. L. Dixon, J. 11. Allen, Adj. Farkor, Mrs A. Spence, Mossrs A. J. Kellow and T. Hughes, j For tho committee, the churches of tho town are to be invited to appoint two of their number to act. Those added from the meoting included:— Mcsdames Stewart and Thompson and Messrs A. Len, E. Thompson and C. V. Guy- . Mr A. 0. Aldis was rc-appointod honorary treasurer. Mr A. J. Kellow consented to act as honorary secretary, Mr Eade being wishful of retiring from tho position. Subscription collectors: Mcsdames Thompson and Stewart, with power to add. The president gave a summary of the j activities of the Dominion executive which showed much organising work being done. Regarding local activities, tho following resolution was carried: “That
tliis annual meeting of tho Bible in Schools League heartily approves of the additional privilege of the five minutes opening exercises, but regrets tho fact that the right of entry by the ministers for the 20 minutes’ Bible instruction on one day of tho week has been cancelled in one instance and urges the householders at their annual meeting to reaffirm the authority given to school committees by plebiscite, and to ask the incoming committees to restore the right of entry one day a week where necessary.” Tho meeting closo with tho Benediction.
