Haul by Jewel Thieves
•RAT'D IN HATTON GARDEN Armed gangsters in America outtlie safe of a Hatton Garden jewel firm, London, and stolen jewellery worth £3300, they left behind one of tho most elaborate and efficient sets of safebrcaldng tools which have ever fallen into the hands of the police. Tho equipment included chisels, drills, jemmies and a “‘turn-table,” which had evidently been used to cut open tho safe, and was modelled on the principle of a tin-opener. The raid was at the offices of Messrs. Gershon Brothers, diamond mounters and jewellers, and among the jewellery stolen were diamond rings, bracelets and uncut stones, one of the bracelet sets with diamonds being worth £350. Tho robbery was discovered by a woman employed in tho building. It is believed that the thieves hid in the building and waited until it was deserted befero beginning their operations.
Messrs. Gershon’s premises are on the second floor, and, though other offices had been entered, theirs was the only one raided. In the office of Mr Walter B-ouldsbridge, a wholesale manufacturing jeweller, the thieves took paste stones, mistaking them for diamonds.
