Sudden Death

WELL-KNOWN LEVIN RESIDENT PASSES.

A gloom was cast over tho entire community in Levin yesterday afternoon when the news became known of the death, which occurred while he was engaged in his work as a blacksmith, of Mr David Alalcolm. At about 1.30 p.m. a passerby noticed that Air Malcolm was lying on the floor of the shop where he had been shoeing a horse. He was picked up, but passed away almost immediately.

The late Air Alalcolm was known to nearly every citizen of Levin and district and by all he was most highly respected. Possessed of a particularly genial nature and an aptitude for making friends quickly, he endeared himself to everyone. His passing under such tragic circumstances came as a great shock to the large number who will miss him. The deceased gentleman was an extremely keen sportsman and during his leisure moments spent much of his time at Hokio Beach enjoying net fishing and shooting, in both of which he was acknowledged expert. He is survived by a widow, one daughter, Aliss Flora Alalcolm, of the teaching staff of the Randwick school (Hutt Valley) and one son, Air D. Alex. Alalcolm, who is a teacher at Arapito school, near Westport.
