MISCHIEVOUS INTRUDERS
Several Shops Broken Into
FLOORS STREWN WITH CONTENTS
(Special to “Times.”)
LEVIN, Last Night,
Either last night or early this morning four different business premises in the town area were burglariously entered by what would appear to be more than one person. Though very little of any value was actually taken, the contents of the shops concerned were strewn in indescribable confusionover the floor.
The Levin Egg Mart, managed by Mr H. G. Mackay, was entered by breaking a window at the . rear of the building. Nothing was actually taken, but the invoices and records in the office were removed and scattered round the office in cualess confusion. Mr Mackay rcceutly received a supply of 1000 Anzac memorial poppies for sale by the Levin branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association and these wero included among the papers, some being thrown over the yard at the back. In addition the telephone was torn off the wall.
Entry was gained in a similar manner to the office of the manager of the Regent Theatre. The office contents were taken front the shelves and thrown about, and 2d in cash removed along with photos of the forthcoming picture, “David Coppcrfield.” The Majestic Cafe suffered fairly severely from the depredations of the marauders, who paid attention to making as much mischief as possible among the provisions. Evidences showed that they had cooked a hot meal, supplemented with sardines, while a small cash box was forced open and the shop change removed. The wireless connections were also severed.
Mr. L. Carmichael's shop was entered by the back door and His iu casn taken. The thieves also mixed a drink of cordial and then left without doing any damage. The police have tho matter in hand and arc making investigations.
