It isn't necessary to be Slim to be Charming

ONE wonders why so many

women strive and strain to lose weight and become as slim as wraiths when ninety-nine men out of a hundred prefer them with a little flesh on their bones. And the fact that the sterner sex ridicules the girl whose hips and shoulder blades stand out like hat racks, seems to prove the old contention that women seek to make other women jealous rather than to please men with their dress and sleekness of form.

However, seeing that men for once are rational in liking women to be normally covered with flesh rather than emaciated, we are to-day paying our menfolk the compliment of showing to other Avomen, by means of the fashion pictures on this page, that it is not necessary to be slim to be charming. Several large frocks have been selected and a mannequin chosen whose figure was a little more than the skin and bones variety; and the result Avas most happy. Letmingtons. Ingredients: Mb. butter, |ib. sugar, 4 eggs, 2 large cups of flour, 2 teaspoons baking poavder. Beat butter and sugar to a cream, add eggs, then flour and baking powder. Bake three-quarters of an hour in a fairly hot oven. Icing: loz. butter beaten into -}lb. icing sugar, 1 teaspoon cocoa, vanilla if liked and Avater to mix. Cut cake into blocks, ice and roll in coconut; or dip in half melted stiff jelly and roll in coconut. Bran Tea. Take 3 tablespoons bran, 1 of honey, 1 qt. boiling water. Put bran in jug, pour over Avater, cover and stand -j- hour; strain and SAveeten Avith honey.
