Inside Knowledge
When Imperial emigration authorities wanted to obtain first-hand information in regard to farming prospects and conditions in the Dominions they went about the matter in a thorough-going manner. They deputed an officer to come to the Dominions as an ordinary citizen and obtain work on different classes of farms in Australia and New Zealand. This officer has done his job so far as New Zealand and Australia aro concerned. Judging from some remarks he has made ho will not be presenting a very flattering report on the conditions under which farm hands have to ’ive on farms in general but especially on tho majority of dairy farms. The officer is an intelligent and educated man, broad-minded. as well, and his experience has not been a very happy one. Probably he had the misfortune of working for the wrong type of farmer.
