Stowaways to be Deported
TWO AUSTRALIANS WHO REACHED AUCKLAND. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. Two Australians, Raymond Ronald Evans, painter, aged 21, and Donald Rogers, blacksmith, aged 2], who came to Auckland as stowaways on the Canadian Planter, appeared in the Police Court. Both pleaded guilty to stowing away on the vessel at Melbourne on March 10 and to being prohibited immigrants who had landed at Auckland without permits. The Collector of Customs, Mr. McIntosh, who prosecuted, said five men went on board (he Canadian Planter at Melbourne but three were discovered and put ashore. The two accused were not found until the vessel was at sea. The Magistrate made a deportation order in each ease and formally sentenced both to 21 days’ imprisonment. He also ordered them to be placed on a vessel that is to take them back to Australia.
