lion. P. Fraser, Minister of Education, announced last evening that he would shortly bo resigning from the Wellington City Council. At the 29th annual conference of Master Printers of New Zealand, held at Wellington, the following ollicers were' elected: —President, Mr 11. Harris (Dunedin); vice-president, Mr 13. 0. Jacobs (Auckland); immediate past president, Mr A. Dennison ' (Auckland); executive, Messrs E. Aldridge (Auckland), 11. Ooull. (Wellington), E. Darroch (Tirnaru), 11. W. Lattey (Wellington), W. J. Palamantairn (Wairarapa), T. .Somerville (Dunedin), J. Stout (Christchurch) and J. P. Thom ’ (Invercargill).
The funeral of ltoy Reed, who died as a result of injuries received when his mount fell in a race at Trcnthum on Tuesday, took place yesterday at Wellington. A striking public tribute was paid deceased, the streets in the vicinity of the mortuary chapel, where a service was held, being crowded with thousands of spectators. Trathc control by city patrolmen was necessury. The cortege was a long one, those attending including the Minister of Internal Affairs (Hon. W. E. Parry) and a large representation of various sections of the sporting community as well as the general public.
