Changing the Scrum

DIVERGENT VIEWS OF PLAYERS Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Niglit. Opposition to any suggestion for altering the rule at present governing Rugby football was shown at the annual meeting of delegates of the Canterbury Union to-night when proposals for the reversion to the 2223 —2 scrum and the revival of tho amended kick into touch rule, were before the meeting. A suggestion that the union should make it mandatory on clubs to adopt the 2223 —2 formation found little support and a proposal that dispensation be sought from the New Zealand Union to introduce these proposed changes, was also defeated. The proposals were separated for the purposes of voting. The 2—3—2 scrum proposal was defeated by 33 votes to 31 and it was decided to apply for dispensation for the kick into touch rule. INVERCARGILL, Last Night. That players themselves desired a return of the 2 —3—2 scrum formation and that a vote be made to have it adopted throughout New Zealand, was the unanimous opinion of the Star Rugby Football Club at its annual meeting to-night. It was decided to recommend the Southland Rugby Union to press for its return and endeavour to get other unions in New Zealand tc do the same.
