Carden Party at "Mahua," Feilding
The postponed garden party at "Mahua,” the' home of Mr and MrsE. E. Short, was hold on Tuosday afternoon for Miss Joan Billman, the Cheltenham W.I. carnival queen candidate.
Fortunately tho weather on this occasion was very calm and pleasant and allowed of proceedings being carried through most happily. The grounds provided a charming setting with their verdant lawn and terrace and gay flower-beds in which roses, gladioli, asters and zinnias bloomed profusely, while viginia creeper trailing over a stone wall round the torrace added further colour to a scene that drew forth . many ejaculations of pleasure.
Various stalls were, set out on. the tennis court, and those in charge were as follow: —Fancy, Mrs J. E. Barltrop, assisted by Miss E. Booth; produce and cakes, Mrs H. Brooker, assisted by Medamcs F. G. Billman and Soworby; sweets, Mrs G. J. Fitzpatrick; afternoon tea, Mesdames H. E. Ilocken, Shepherd (Cheltenham), F. Shepherd and. Funnell (Cheltenham). Miss Billman was in charge of clock golf and the winner was Mr Hammill. Miss Hazel Hoelcen presided over ladder croquet, which was won by Mr 0. B. C. Evans, and taipo was in the hands of Mrs Fitzpatrick and was 'won by Mrs Ancell, senr. A competition for a very attractive fireside chair donated by the queen candiate’s uncle, Mr ,S. S. Williams, of Wellington, was- won by Mrs Barltrop. Tho pleasure of a most enjoyable afternoon was enhanced by tho delightful music played by Mrs A. B. Farmer (piano and violin), Miss Hausmann (.’cello), Miss G. Humphrey (piano), and Mr Farmer (violin);/ \ ..
