Manawatu Ladies' Golf Club

ANNUAL MEETING. t Tho annual meeting of the ManaAvatu Ladies’ Golf Club A\as held yesterday afternoon in. the club-houso, Mrs A. E. Ekstedt presiding over a very largo attendance. Annual Report. The annual report, presented by the secretary (Mrs L. Seifert), shoAved that the past season had been an exceptionally successful one. I .Tho club’s membership avus now 159. It avus also stated that about 90 players had taken part in tho competitions and that, six B grade players had qualified j for tho A'grade and seven C grade for ' tho B grade. The annual tournament had been most successful, there being 11M entries. The open championship was Avon by Mrs C. V . Kebbeil, a nicmber .of the club; the Freeth course record cup Avas Avon by Miss I. Seifert; tho club’s championship was won by Mrs L. F. Speechley; the intermediate championship by Mrs H. E. Edmunds, and the junior championship by Miss N. Nash. Eight inter-club matches Avere played during the season. Masterton was again challenged for the Rapley cup, but the trip proved unsuccessful. During tho season, ManaAvatu withstood challenges for the Mina Seifert cup from Pahiatua, Wanganui and Marton. The HokoAvhitu challenge stars were competed for many times during the season. Mrs M. Gabriel and Mrs G. R. Luke Avere in. possession of the stars at tho end of the season and Avill bo the holders at the beginning of tho 1956 season. Club Competitions, Tho competitions Avill bo played in the same -order as last season. The first competition of the season will be played on Tuesday, April 21. There Avill bo an' eclectic competition on L.G.U. medal days. Also qualifying rounds for tho championship. New Members. The follovving were elected neAV members:—Dr. Mabel G. Wood, Mesdaines F. K. Clayton, N. S. Triggs, 11. Pringle, F. Ward and Misses lllston and M. McIvor. Election of Officers. Officers Avere elected for the ensuing season as foll'OAv: —Patron, Mrs L. A. Abraham; president, Mrs J. C. Young; vice-presidents, Mrs L. F. Speechley and Mrs R. H. Billcns; captain, Mrs J. F. Field; .hon. secretary, Mrs L. Seifert; hon. assistant secretary, Mrs L. Cooper; committee, Mesdames A. E. Ekstedt, D. Y. Stewart, D. 0. Williams and 11. R. Whitehead. Votes were accorded Mrs J. P. Innes, retired vice-president, Mrs A. McKegg, committee member; also Mrs J. F. Field, captain, Mrs L. Seifert, hon. secretary, and Mrs L. Cooper, assistant hon. secretary, and Mrs A. E. Ekstedt for presiding. Medal Competition. Prior to tho meeting a incdal competition over nine holes avus played for Mrs . A. Jacques’ trophies, which resulted:— A grade: Mrs E. Wimsett. B grade: Mrs E. Hooper.
