Miss Amy Kano and Miss Daisy Isaacs, of Wellington, were visitors to Palmerston North at the week-end. Mrs. Garth Williams, Tiritea, was called to Elthaiu on Saturday on account of the serious illness of her sister, Mrs. J. Eliott. Miss McFarlane, of Palmerston North, who has been competing in the Taranaki croquet tournament at New Plymouth, returned home on Saturday. Tho death occurred in Napier on Thursday evening of a .very old and highly respected resident of the town, in the person .of Mrs. Louisa Logan, widow of the late Mr. Francis Logan. Born in Australia about 76 years ago, Mrs. Logan had resided in Napier for the past 50 years, during which period her charming manner and outstanding personality had endeared her to everyone with whom she came in contact. Her marriage to the late Mr. Francis Logan took place some years after her arrival in New Zealand, and for many years she was closely associated with the social side, of the many, sporting activities in. which her husband was interested. She also identified herself with most of the charitable' organisations of the town. The late Mrs. Logan had been laid aside for a number of years on account of the state of her health. To mourn her passing she leaves two sons, Mr. F. B. Logan, sheepfarmer, of Kereru, and Mr. I. B. Logan, solicitor, of Napier, and a number of grandchildren.
