N. Wellington Federation Of Women's Institutes
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE
At a meeting of the executive committee of the North Wellington Federation of Women's Institutes, held in Palmerston North, Miss M. Grant presided, also present being Mesdames A. McCorkindalo (Feildiug), A. J. Will (Rongotea), Waring Taylor (Shannon), T. Lynch (Linton), A. K. Drew (Sanson), S. Barnicoat (Kimbolton), and W. G. Short (Cheltenham).
The members stood a moment in silent to honour the memory of the late King George V and to express sympathy with Queen Mary and tho Royal Family. Queen Mary and the Princess Royal are both members of women’s institutes.
Sympathy was expressed with Mrs Easton, who was indisposed, with good wishes for her speedy recovery. Presenting the financial statement, tho treasurer (Mrs Barnicoat) acknowledged the following donations:— Levin 10s, Colyton £l, Aokautere ss, Newbury 7s 6d, Bulls £1 Is. Affiliation fees received comprised: Ohakea 14s, Ihakara ss, Taikorea 8s 6d, Marton Junction 10s 6d.
An amount of £2 12s 3d had been received from Parewanui, for the Crippled Children’s Society.
The date of the annual meeting was fixed for April 23, to be held in the Municipal hall, Palmerston North. Various items were suggested with regard to the programme, the afternoon to include a speaker, a play, and one or two musical items, to be finalised at next meeting.
Resolutions sent forward for the annual general meeting were as follow: — That all institutes should be required to pay into the conference pool, on a scalo decided upon by the Dominion executive; that tho Dominion executive be empowered to select twenty resolutions from those sent in for the annual general meeting as were considered of most importance for tho movement.
Mrs Waring Taylor reported onthe holiday houses at Paraparaumu and Foxton, satisfactory improvements having been carried out at tho former house, while recommendations were put forward for work to bo done at Foxton. It was pointed out that some members had neglected to replace broken crockery.—Attention to be drawn to the rule.
Final arrangements were made for the officers’ conference to be conducted by Mrs Kelso and Miss Spencer at Foxton house, a satisfactory attendance being indicated. With regard to tho proposed weekend school of drama, it was agreed to drop tho federation effort owing to the proximity of dates with the school planned by the Manawatu area of the British Drama League, and to recommend members to attend the area school in Palmerston North early in May. Reporting on the Tecent institute display at tho Feilding show, Mrs McCorkindale stated that the competition had covered a full range of institute work, one being home produce (To Arakura) and the other arts and crafts (Makino). Both institutes had received miniature cups.
