GERMAN OFFICIAL’S COLLECTION ESSEN (Germany). Discontented with spending Germany’s “Day of Nationl Solidarity” out in the streets, collecting for 'the benefit of winter relief, the officials of the district of Essen arranged a special collection among themselves to provide funds for the training of children whoso parents wero too poor to send them to high schools and academies. The officials collected £24,000, which will be sufficient to send 230 children to diverse training camps and schools. The officials appointed themselves as ‘volunteer godfathers,” who will take a special interest in the children who are to benefit by their donation. The children will be picked according to ‘‘their talent, gifts and biological qualities. ”
