Congratulations to Mr. W. J. Crouclier on resuming his scat after a lengthy illness were conveyed by the committee of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association yesterday.

Association yesterday expressed its regret at the passing of the late King George V, and decided to scud, through the Governor-General, a letter of sympathy and condolence to Queen Mary and the Royal Family. <S> <3> ❖ <*> Last Wednesday Henri Cochct (Franco) and three outstanding Australian tennis players were scheduled to play exhibition matches at Palmerston North. The association had insured against rain and, owing to the adverse weather conditions, the contests had to be postponed. The association was safeguarded for £25 if 10 points of rain fell, however, and when 67 points were recorded between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. —the specified time—the issue was beyond doubt in this respect.

The tragic passing of SquadronLeader M. C. McGregor was the subject of reference at the committee meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast A. and P. Association yesterday, when it was resolved to send a letter of sympathy and condolence to the wife and family of deceased. It was regrettable, said the president, Mr. J. Batchelar, that such an eminent pilot, accomplished as a world traveller, should have met such a tragic death.

Lieut. Pike, conductor, Lieut. Wilson, drum-major, and Mr. W. H. Boon, of the Palmerston North Garrison Baud, left yesterday morning for New Plymouth to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Brass Band Association Bandsmen Curtis (euphonium) and Fitzsimons (fiugcl) arc leaving to-day to participate in solo contests. If possible Bandsman Cowlishaw (L fiat bass) will make the trip later to participate in his section. Owing to several members being unable to leave their business occupations it is regretted the band cannot make the trip as a complete unit.
