C 7 —■ « ■ - * Wesl End Fixture Proves Popular There was a fair attendance, considering the adverse weather conditions, at the Municipal baths at Palmerston North last evening when the AVcst End Amateur Swimming Club held its initial carnival. Manawatu championships were included on tho excellent programme w 7 hich was expeditiously put through and enjoyed by all. Included among the officials controlling the carnival wero Messrs W. Sehwabe (president), H. Hands (vicepresident), W. Fitzgerald (starter), R. Hands (check starter), T. Wilkinson and Miss J. Hands and club captains (call stewards), Messrs T. Twiggc and A. Bovis (timekeepers), L. Bailey, H. Hands, AV. Schwarz (swimming judges), Nichols, Fitzgerald, Huntington (handicappers), J. Robertson (doorkeeper), AV. Sehwabe (record steward), K. Daw r kins (blackboard steward),-S. Dawick (club captain), A. M. Stevenson (hob, secretary), C. Sehwabe (announcer), Championship Events. In the 100 yards Manawatu Centre freestyle championship for men, D. Simmond 7 : v-as the winner. The Central Club representative was first home in 'a time of 64 seconds, R. Barker (Massey College) being second and C. Baigent (Central) third. In the Manawatu Centre ladies’ breaststroke event only two ontered, the winner being Miss N. Gaskin (Feilding) with Miss C. Edwards (Central) second. The time was 99 4-ssec. Tho 100 yards intermediate boys 7 breaststroke contest, another Centre event, was won uy B. Holmes (Hokowhitu) with C.
