Duco “Gunmen” Hold-up Motor Factory
WAGES DISPUTE AT PETONE Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Between 450 and 500 employed in the factory of General Motors, Ltd., at Petone ceased wmrk at 2.30 pan. to-day following the lead set by 13 dueo gunmen who had unsuccessfully approached the management at lunch time for an increase in their wages of 2d per hour. They included painters, ' motor body builders, assembly men and workers in the trim department and in the commercial department. After the delegation appointed by the men had met Mr. W. McHardy Forman, general manager of the company, tonight, Mr. Forman agreed to increase the wages of the men by a penny an hour as from to-morrow and to consider further representations they might have to make when ho returns from Australia in about a fortnight's time. A decision concerning this offer will be made by the men at a meeting to be held at tho factory at 7.30 a.m. tomorrow.
