Recent Form Should Prove Reliable Guide at Woodville

FIELDS FOR TO-MORROW Following are the acceptances foi the New Brighton Trotting Club’ summer meeting to-morrow: —

Autumn Meeting Opens To-day With Good Fields Assured Big Course in Great Order The Autumn Meeting of the Woodville District Jockey Club opens to-day, and with good fields engaged and a roomy course on which the form horses have every chance of proving their worth, this popular fixture should prove a centre of attraction to racing enthusiasts. The first race is timed to start at noon and the betting will be conducted on the single pool syEtem with two dividends where there are not less than five starters, and the odds will be shown by a dividend indicator, which is an innovation at Woodville. Polio wing is a short review of the fields:—

The Maiden Plate There are fourteen acceptors for the Maiden Plate, which starts at noon and which will be fought out over six furlongs. This is for horses that have not won a flat race at time of starting, and among those who have shown ability to gallop are Sansfoy, First Chapter, Battle Pomp, Conception, Golden Anne and Joviality. The issue is open and there is a possibility of a surprise. There is a chance that the public will go most solidly for SANSFOY BATTLE POMP TOMMY ATKINS. , Next in order' is the Oringi Highweight, over. a mile and a-quartcr. Eight have been carded for this event and a good raco should result. Blue Tiger at the head of the handicap reads well with 9.12, and on his home course can be depended upon to run a solid race. Monarchy, Eoyal Papa (winner of the Duke of Gloucester Cup), with Ethiop and Taumau in the minor places, and John Charles, are in receipt of 31b. from Blue Tiger, and the three of them must be taken into account. Gaswyn and Widden are recent winners over hurdles, so that the raco bears a very open appearance, every one of the acceptors having,, a chance. When the machine has closed it may be found that the public have gone most strongly for EOYAL PAPA BLUE TIGER EARL COLOSSUS The six acceptors for the Woodville Handicap may not be up to the usual standard for this race, but what they lack in quality, they more than compensate with recent.. form. Werohia was a good winner, at Woodville in December,- and he -has been in the money since. Werohia, carrying 7.9 and 8.6, won both the big races in December, and with 9.5 to-day ho has not been harshly treated. - Full Throttle dead-heated- with Midian over a mile and a distance at WanganuijHest won over a mile and a-quarter at Wairoa, and Version! over ■ 9-furlongs on -the second day of the Wairoa meeting. Hest and Version figure in. the Kumeroa Handicap later in the day. Ethiop won the Trentham Highweight last month and also the Douro Cup, for which he was favourite, and as he was going on with it at the finish, today’s distance should not be too much for him. Queen’s Pride was fourth in tho Ashhurst Cup, two good ones in Eminent and Aussie lta finishing in front of her. The betting should take a wide range to-day and preference may be for ETHIOP WEROHIA QUEEN’S PRIDE. The fourth race is the Sapling Stakes and four of the seven starters are from F, W. Davis’s stable. Karl and Lo Touquet belong to Mr Frank Ormond, and they are bracketed. Mandamus will carry Mr W. H. Gaisford’s colours and Birthday Party the gold and navy blue of Mr T. H. Lowry. The others are Siegmund from Trentham, The Bigot from Marton Junction, and Silver River from Hastings. The public may- elect to support. “ KARL-LE TOUQUET bracket, BIRTHDAY PARTY.

NO RAIN IN WOODVILLE YESTERDAY COURSE IN PERFECT ORDER A report received last evening from the secretary of the Woodville District Jockey Club (Mr W. A. Lyon) indicated that there had been no rain in Woodville yesterday, and that the course was in perfect order. Mr Lyon also stated that the dividend indicator had been installed and that everything was in readiness for the autumn meeting. WINTON RACES TO-DAY WIN AND ’ PLACE BETTING The Winton meeting is being held today and the betting, despite the small fields, will bo win and place. Horses which might be fancied are:— Novice Stakes: Fireguard, Coat of Arms. Jubilee Cup: Trivet, McHeatk. Publican’s Handicap: Beam. Memorial Steeples: Parasang, Trisox. Barkly Handicap: Wild Career, Wall Street. James Handicap: Sailing Home, Enwood, THE ACCEPTANCES.

There aro 13 acceptors for the President’s Handicap, which will be. decided over seven furlongs. Two of them, Soho and Peter’s Pence, are bracketed. Horses with recent form are Confiscation, Vinco, Mesurina, Royal Record, Lord Moutoa, Soho, Peter’s Pence Cheerful Day, Sybil Song and Count Willonyx, so that a wide choice is offered. When the machine has closed it may be found that the best-backed horses are KOTU VINCO CONFISCATION.

The open sprint has drawn a field of ten acceptors and a great contest is indicated. Land Tax has pride of place, and tho let-up she has had should be all to the good. Haut Monde has been working well and on his homo course tho three-year-old will have to be taken into account, for he has plenty, of pace. Sir Nigel, trained at Hastings, indicated at 'Wanganui that he was not far from top form, and he is good when right. Porotiti was backed and beaten at Wanganui, but the Woodville course and going may be more to his liking. Fit and well he would take a power of beating. Of the others Lavina, who has been consistent, and Bodyline appear to have best credentials. The public may plump for 0 lIAUT MONDE SIR NIGEL ’ LAVINA.
