After serving for 23 years with the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand, Ltd., for whom he has held command of not fewer than 24 steamers, Captain Donald McDonald is retiring from the sea. During his service With the company Captain McDonald received the King’s Silver Medal for gallantry when assisting in the rescue of a member of the crew of the Tahiti who had become affected by cyanide fumes, following the fumigation of the vessel while she was at San Francisco on February 28th, 1922
