J. Graham) has decided that an inquest will not be necessary. ILo has certified that death was due to exposure and exhaustion.

Before commencing the business of the Palmerston North Chamber of Commerce yesterday the president, Mr A. J. Graham, made mention of the very great loss suffered by the nation in the death of King George V. He moved a resolution of sympathy with the Royal Family and of loyalty and allegiance to the Throne, this being carried in silence. <S> <S> <s> It was resolved at yesterday's meeting of the Kairanga County Council to write to tho Main Highways Board applying for a grant for reconditioning No. 00 highway (Palmerston North-Levin road). Mr J. Hodgens, M.P., is also to be written to seeking assistance in this regard. The subsidy is desired to meet the expense in connection with extra maintenance due to storm and flood. <s> <S> <S> <S> Four candles cast a small circle of light iu the Terrace End Bowling, Tennis and Croquet Club’s pavilion last evening, and within that area members sat at a table to discuss the Progressive Association’s affairs. The power supply to the building had been interrupted owing to the recent storm, but this did not cast a gloom over the position, members being enthusiastic enough to carry on the good work despite this difficulty. «> «> “ <♦> <*> Temporarily at least, telephone and telegraph services in the Manawatu area have been brought back practically to normal by the P. and T. De parimeut after the damage dune by the recent hurricane. There aro stilt some rural subscribers to be connected and this work is proceeding in the Longburn-Karcre and Fitzherbert; districts. There will be months of per muncrit work to be done on mum lines, where some poles have to be jacked up and rammed, and others re placed. Nineteen poles were brought down or forced out of alignment at Linton by the hurricane, Id at Awapuni and about 30 altogether on the Napier road.
