MANGATAINOKA MEETING Mrs Boss presided over a good attendance of members at the first 1036 meeting of the Mangatainoka Women’s Institute, held on Thursday last. A picnic was to have been held <n lieu of the January meeting, but owing to the unsettled weather and other causes this had been postponed, and is now to be held .in the Carnival park on Saturday, February 22, weather permitting. Mrs J. Swannoy, junr., link correspondent, read two interesting letters from overseas, after which the demonstrator for the afternoon was called upon. Miss Cavanagh, of ilamua, gave this exhibition, which was of silk art work, and her instruction was much appreciated. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to her, on the motion of Miss Pryde. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdames Ginnane, Hughes, Sharplin and Miss Boy. A competition for scones was won by Miss Fergus, Miss Cook being second and Miss Pryde third, while one for the best article made from a sugar bag was won by Miss Cook, Mrs Boss being second and Mrs Howed third.’ A musical parcel competition was won by Mrs Wiltshire. Thus one more pleasant gathering was brought to a close with the singing of the National Anthem, Mrs L. Busden presiding at the piano.
